Subject: Bus Speeds in Hosby Denmark
Date: Thu, 5 Aug 2004 08:57:23 +0200
Dear Mette,
Thank you for taking my call yesterday. I am happy to provide my
complaint/comments via email:
I live in the small village of Hosby about 5 km from Juelsminde on
bus 103's route to Horsens. Over the years I've lived here the
problem of bus speeds in the village has gotten worse.
As an example, on Tuesday, 3 Aug 2004 at approximately 1620 I just
happened to fall in behind the 103 bus (vehicle number 2688) on its
way to Juelsminde. The bus turned from Gludvej onto Grønvej in Hosby
and I resisted the correct thing to do (stop my acceleration at 40,
the posted speed limit) and instead accelerated along with the bus to
60 or 61 kph.
After a momentary stop at the intersection with Hosby Langgade the
bus turned right and accelerated on the very narrow and winding lane
up to 50 to 52 kph prior to stopping for a waiting passenger. I
pulled in front, parked the car and walked to the drivers window.
I asked the driver if he knew the posted speed limit, and he said
"fyrre". I asked him why he was driving faster and he held up the
schedule indicating he had to keep it. I told him I didn't think it
was legal for him to speed through our little village just because he
had a printed schedule. With that he gave me a superior, down the
nose look, told me I was only making him later, and drove off--in a
huff.
This note is not about that *one* driver--nor about *all* drivers.
Rather is about some drivers--or more precisely *too many* of
them. Too many seem to think they can get back on schedule by
driving through Hosby at an unsafe speed. . .
. . . I thank you in advance for your attention to this problem, and
apologize that I had to write it p&arign; engelsk . . .
