FAQ #2: What is a Texan doing in Denmark?
Expanded:
- moved out of the house from the mother of my wonderful son's in Feb '87
- "wonderful Air Force"© sent me to Thule Air Base Greenland in Jun '88
- joke is on them, i LOVED it there
- met a Danish surgical nurse named Mette the first day on base...she was like a breath of
fresh air in my life...changed me in so many really good ways...i remain forever indebted
to her for allowing me to learn a new way to live.
- moved earth to extend my time there (UNheard of that someone might wanna stay one day
longer than their "one year tour", but i did.)
- i only got an extra few months and the "wonderful Air Force"© moved me to Tinker
Oklahoma in Oct '89
- when i had 22 years (and no "O6") i retired (Jan 91)
- within 12 days i was back at Thule, with "the love of my life"
- worked there (hired gun for Greenland
Contractor's ) Apr '92 - Apr '94
- moved to Hosby Denmark Oct '94 with Mette, and the intention of living together "happily ever
after"
- governmental authorities, being as they are--even in Denmark, ruled that i had to
"make an honest woman out of her" and we were married in Mar '95
- within a very few years i'd lived in this old (1917) house longer than anyplace
since i was 21...and having all those years moving around with the "wonderful Air
Force"© (being forced to learn to put down tap roots REAL quick (or forever feel like
a man/family without a home))...well, i made this place Home Sweet Home pretty quick..
- this is home--there IS a new Frequently Asked Question: "Are you gonna stay in Denmark
forever?" i'll get around to typing my answer to that some other day..
- i like most everything about Denmark except, two things:
- the taxes (REALLY high, but one does get a lot for their money--i'm not looking to throw
a "Boston Tea Party" down at the shore, 4,150 feet (depending on the tide) from where
i'm typing (at the dining/living room table)
- my surgical nurse Mette died of cancer in Jan 2001...more than you could possibly
want to know about that is at her "her story" memorial site (even less updated than this one), hop to
